APRIL 20 AND 21: MONDAY AND TUESDAY, 10:00 – 5:00
New
Man, New Woman, New Life Seminar
Bible Studies on Marriage, Family and Gender
The Bible presents us with a three-part story of human relationship with God
and with each other. “Once upon
a time,” this story reveals, human beings were created as male and female in
the image of God to fulfill an ideal – a one flesh, naked and unashamed
marriage that was the crowning act of creation.
The second part of the story traces our rejection of the life of
faith and the loss of God’s abundant provision for us.
This fall from grace brought division among God’s creation, a
striving for power over each other, and the loss of the fearless love for
which God created us. The final
chapter of this story, however, finds us redeemed – brought back by Christ
from the bondage of the fallen world into which we sold ourselves.
The New Men, New Woman, New Life
Seminar and study guide explores that story, showing how redemption not only
restores each one of us to wholeness with God, but also brings us back to
the creation ideal of unity and equality with one another.
Through redemption we become the New Man or New Woman, restored to
New Life in Christ.
Purpose:
·
Help participants discover God’s ideal for marriage and family life
·
Provide the opportunity for participants to discuss how to apply this ideal
to challenges facing marriage and family today
·
Raise the position of men, women, children and marriage itself to Christian
standards
Most of the seminar time is spent in small group study of scriptures using
the New Man, New Woman Bible
study guide and discussion.
These two days are open to anyone interested in learning more about
Empower’s work or to anyone interested in this topic, and required for all
2009 facilitators. Space is
limited, however, so please contact Carrie at EIM@fastmail.fm to reserve
your spot.
COST:
For those who can afford it, we are asking for a donation of $40 each, which
will help cover the cost of materials, two lunches, and continental
breakfasts.
FRIDAY 10:00 – NOON
Facilitator
Training

The Facilitator Training is for those who you are going to Africa with us in
June 2009, who hope to go in another year, or who would like to become
familiar with the material in order to offer it through your own ministries.
This training is by invitation only (contact Carrie if you would like
to be invited).
These two and a half days will prepare you to teach the
New Man, New Woman, New Life
seminar. The seminar is not difficult to facilitate and you need not be in
ministry to lead it. We will
also spend time talking about the trip itself.
This training will prepare you to facilitate the
New Man, New Woman, New Life
seminar. It is not difficult to teach and you need not be in ministry to
lead it.
All facilitators should also attend the seminar itself on Monday and
Tuesday.
We will spend our time
·
Familiarizing you with the material;
·
Discussing cultural issues that affect the way Africans understand and apply
these Bible verses (there is a surprise in every study);
·
Going over facilitation techniques such as charting participant comments,
setting the tone for the seminar, and drawing out participants;
·
Preparing for the “overview” sermon that begins the seminar and which you
can use when asked to preach in churches you are visiting;
·
“Deep” background on related issues (time permitting);
·
Giving information about Created to
Belong;
·
Talking about the trip itself.
In preparation for the facilitator training, you might also read my book,
The Redemption of Love, on which
New Man, New Woman is based.
I
will also send some articles on Africa I wrote that you will find useful.
