In May I had the privilege and joy of traveling in Uganda with
Empower
International. Along with participating in Carrie Miles'
seminars on Biblical
gender issues, Linda Ikeda and I had a variety of teaching and heart
sharing
opportunities. We participated in times of worship which were
fervent and
praise filled, stirring my soul.
Everywhere we went, we were greeted with beautiful smiles and warm
hospitality. We were invited to tea and meals in many homes.
In the south of the country, Kabale, we met several Ugandans and
people
from other countries working selflessly with orphans, street
children, and
widows.
In Kampala, we visited a settlement of refugees from the war-torn
north of
the country. A church has been started in their midst, bringing them
the
hope of Christ as they try to salvage their lives.
I was saddened to learn of the low position of women in Uganda, and
to hear
many stories from women who have endured years of spousal abuse with
no help
available to them. The hope for these women lies in Christ and His
Church as
we work together to share His living waters and truth, and to extend
His
Kingdom on earth.
