ASREC
The Association for the Study of Religion, Economics, and Culture
The Association for the Study of Religion, Economics, and Culture encourages research and scholarship in the economic and rational-choice study of religion and culture, primarily by facilitating interaction and exchange of information among the scholars in this field.
ASREC is not just for economists, but for any scholar who is interested in rational-choice approaches to the study of religious behavior or organizations, cultural values, mores, and other normative social institutions.
Currently, our main activity is an annual conference on Religion, Economics, and Culture. This conference, held in conjunction with the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion's annual meetings, provides a unique setting in which scholars can present their research while establishing a valuable contacts with like-minded colleagues. Over 80 scholars attended the 2004 meetings in Kansas City, MO. The 2005 conference will be held November 4-6 in Rochester, New York.
Another important activity of ASREC is the Economics of Religion web site, which will soon contain a membership directory, a bibliography of the work in this field, news and announcements, links to related web sites, scholarly articles, and a bulletin board.
In the future, we hope to publish edited volumes of the best work done in the economics of religion.
